Reflecting on a Magical Shamanic Journey

Updated: May 21

A Unique Experience with a Shaman Student

I'm still reflecting on the fun I had today with a shaman student. She has a background in various holistic tools and a natural shamanic tendency. We had planned that I would use pathworking and invite her to experience my soul space. I have done this before with students, but not often, as it’s a deeply personal thing to share.

Before she arrived, I journeyed into my soul space. My space is on a "war footing" at the moment. I had asked certain guides to step back to create a calmer atmosphere. I also conducted a rune reading for myself, pulling the runes connected with Frigg, Frey, and Loki. However, this was my personal work and not something we discussed.

Setting the Scene

After a brief chat, we both sat down and focused on our breath. I began drumming to enhance the experience. I described the small room where I usually start, the door, and the woodland path leading up to the threshold of my soul space. I simply drummed, allowing her to experience it fully.

I walked over to the fire, taking in the bright stars above. Odin and Frey were sitting by the fire. There was some concern about a personal situation that felt like a threat. Odin was smoking his pipe and offering practical advice. Frey stood up, saying, “I’d better go and chat with her.” He then leaped into my tree, sitting on a branch with his legs swinging.

As I turned to talk to Odin, I noticed a tail slinking through my soul space. Upon looking again, I was stunned to see a crazy, misfit dragon—larger than my tree—curling around the edge of my soul space, accompanied by manic laughter. It seemed I had both Odin and Loki present.

Returning to Reality

Eventually, there came a point when Frey walked back to the fire and nodded to me, indicating that the journey was over. I began to guide both my student and myself back to our grounded state. Once we were settled, we started to discuss the experience.

She described vivid scenes of the bright green May morning trees and the starlight filtering through. She observed a fire pit and then saw a rabbit, which is associated with Frigg—the first of my runes.

Next, she saw a fae figure and accurately described Frey, just as I see him. She mentioned him sitting in my tree, looking down. Frey was my second rune.

Finally, she accurately characterized the mismatched, shape-shifting dragon that represented Loki, wrapped around my soul space—my third rune.

The Essence of Shamanic Work

I love the magic, buzz, and shared experience of shamanic work. It’s easy to think that you are merely imagining things or making it up. Sometimes, daydreaming can mix with the work, making it hard to draw a clear distinction. However, when validation like this occurs—spookily accurate details that my student had no way of knowing—you are reminded just how powerful this practice really is.

It's moments like these that strengthen my belief in the work we do. When someone else can see and describe the energies and entities that you encounter, it adds a remarkable depth to the experience. This mutual recognition fosters a sense of connection that is truly unique.

Shamanic Journey

In conclusion, shamanic journeys are not just about personal reflections; they are about shared experiences. Each journey teaches us something new, whether it’s about ourselves or the guides who accompany us. These deep connections confirm that we are never alone in our spiritual pursuits. I look forward to more sessions like this.
