Scary Ace of Pentacles

It's easy to see the Ace of Pentacles and only see the potential of money coming in or a new opportunity, but as with most things in life- there is a price to pay!

When I look at the Ace of Pentacles in the Rider-Waite deck one of the details that I love is the rim. It is a unique detail that to me is a gentle warning. There are two sides to this Pentacle. Yes something is offered, but a payment is expected as well.

What is the payment?

The image on the card makes it very clear.

We have the beuatiful garden of Eden, with the Lilies growing wild. That is our comfort zone, our place of ease, and that is never our place of growth.

The path leads through the rose covered arch and heads straight for the blue mountains- representing our highest potential.

Earlier in the year I was asked to read the runes at a wedding. I don't do many events now, they don't really fit with family life and I do tend to get nervous. But is unusual to read the runes, and I was asked specifically because I use the Younger Futhark, so I checked in with the Tarot to see. And yes- the Ace of Pentacles was the key card. A feeling this would be worth doing both financially and for personal growth. So I agreed.

The event was a three hour drive away (so I combined it with a weekend away) and I checked into my air bnb nice and early to get changed and rest.

I am a full time proffessional Tarot & Rune reader, I am good at my job and love it. But as I sat there looking at the directions for the castle nerves took over. I was physically sick, and had an overwhelming desire not to go. I really tuned in- was this real, or was this anxiety. I tend to keep my runes for my personal use- a whole event, around 40 mini readings- I'd never done that with the runes before. This was anxiety and it was not going to stop me.

I arrived early at the castle to be shown a gorgous corner. I sat, shuffled my rune cards (which you can purchase from my website) and played around with readings.

At first the readings were slow, there was alcohol, dancing, computer games set up... lots for people to do. Then after the first few I had a queue that seemed to last for hours.

I did a classic three rune reading (past, present, future) and then a three card Tarot reading to support the advice in the present rune.

Some clients were rather drunk, some had no idea what runes were, others were surprised I was working with the Younger Futhark.

There was tears, laughter, a large platter of cheese to keeping me going, and around 40 mini readings in the end. As a seidr practitioner (a form of shamanic work) I tend to journey and ask the Gods directly rather than read the runes. Reading for so many clients in one evening really helped me understand rune readings in a new way. It was worth the anxiety and stress, I reached a new understanding through stepping right out of my comfort zone.

The Ace of Pentacles reminds us we need to step out of that comfort zone to grow, however scary that may feel at times.
